Recording studios, radio and television stations, operas and prestigious theaters all over the world use AKG equipment. Our microphones and helmets are often present in the photos of the great stars of international music for many years. AKG is today one of the world leaders in the manufacture of high-quality microphones, headsets and wireless equipment. Here is the brief summary of the genesis of one of the most prestigious brands in the world of professional audio.
Founded in 1947 in Vienna, Austria, by Rudolf Goerike and Ernst Pless, AKG quickly became one of the major players in the audio world. To say that AKG is synonymous with "good sound" is an euphemism; "Excellent" is more appropriate, because it represents passion for the quality of musical reproduction and natural propensity to innovation. In the early months of the company, the first AKG microphones were already acclaimed by radio stations, jazz clubs and concert halls. These equipments (the AKG DYN series) were at the time hand-made by a staff of five.
In 1949, the first AKG helmets appeared on the market. Then, in the early 1950s, AKG created the sensation with new products totally unreleased: the D 12, the first high-quality cardioid condenser microphone; The C 12, the first multi-purpose remote-controlled microphone; And the D 36 which will be a milestone in the history of acoustics. AKG extends worldwide

In 1972, British Post issued a special stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of the BBC showing historical microphones and models from the AKG catalog. One year later, AKG will be awarded its thousandth patent, at the same time as the K 140 integrated helmets, which will be followed by other innovations such as the AKG TS (Transversal Suspension) system, the first two-way World, and line-up of voice-optimized microphones that will cement the international reputation of AKG products. The Alesis Story
Established in 1980, Alesis was founded on innovative semi-conductor chip technology and award winning industrial designs that allowed entry level musicians and recording artists to afford professional studio recording products that were never affordable before. With high “bang for the buck” value, Alesis introduced the world’s first professional 16 bit effects processor under $1000, the Midiverb. Following on the heels of the Midiverb, Alesis progressed into studio quality drum machines (HR-16 and SR-16) as well as synthesizers, studio monitors and mixing consoles.
1991 proved to be the ground-breaking year for Alesis, with the introduction of the ADAT Multi-Channel Digital Tape Recorder. 1969 was a year giants rocked the earth, and they wanted big amps. By that point in history, rock music was the baddest man in the whole damn town. Stadiums and outdoor festivals was where the action was—Madison Square Garden for chrissakes. Fifty watts just wasn't enough to move that chick in the 61st row in her hand-embroidered bellbottoms. It wasn't as if nobody was filling the void—witness the stacks of Marshalls, mountains of Hiwatts, and truckloads of Dual Showmans doing more to promote tinnitus in a single generation since WWII.
Only In America
Ampeg needed to compete. The team of amp designer Bill Hughes and Roger Cox—with input from Bob Rufkahr and Dan Armstrong—set about to create what Cox referred to as "the biggest, nastiest bass amplifier the world had ever seen." Using the same sort of madness that drove Dr. Frankenstein, the team came up with a 300-watt all-tube phantasmagoria they called the Super Vacuum Tube—or SVT, to save on vowels. To fully grasp the monstrosity of their creation, the SVT's 300-watt output stomped the deafening 200-watt Marshall Major by a full 100-watts!
Unveiled at the 1969 NAMM show in Chicago, the SVT head alone weighed 95 lbs and contained fourteen tubes, six of which were massive 6146 power tubes. To heat all those tubes, massive transformers with magnetic fields powerful enough to cause genetic mutations were necessary. And what kind of speakers were able to handle all that power? Nothing less than two cabinets sporting eight ten-inch speakers and weighing 105 lbs. each.
After surveying his creation, Cox was actually concerned about potential liability—when your engineers warn of the possible harm their designs could cause, you'd better listen. Ampeg's management did and devised a warning label which read:
"THIS AMP IS CAPABLE OF DELIVERING SOUND PRESSURE LEVELS THAT MAY CAUSE PERMANENT HEARING DAMAGE."
Her Satanic Majesty's Shakedown Cruise
Some say we make our own luck, but they're usually the people with all the luck. Luck came to Ampeg, not from their own doing, but by the lack of knowledge concerning international voltages on the part of the Rolling Stones. It seems the Stones shipped their Fender amps over to the States to rehearse for their soon-to-be-legendary '69 world tour, plugged them in, switched them on, and the resulting smoke and burn first made the roadies think Keith had nodded out again, until they remembered that the amps were set up for UK voltage.
The Stones may have been "The Greatest Rock n' Roll Band In The World," but like all bands, they liked to get free gear. In a panic, now deceased Stones keyboard player and road manager Ian Stewart contacted Rich Mandella, Ampeg's Hollywood liaison, desperately begging for amps for the tour that was now only weeks away.
Mandella, knowing a good thing when he saw it, loaded up all the SVT prototypes and some old 4x12 cabs into his pickup and headed down to the Warner Brothers lot where the Stones were rehearsing in an unused soundstage. Keith, Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman plugged in to the SVT prototypes and proceeded to turn them up to a level that reduced the un-hip to flaming piles of goo. The Stones may have had sympathy for the devil, but they gave no such kindness to the SVT prototypes. Mandella began to notice that the prototypes were getting close to meltdown under Keith's relentless bashing. According to Mandella, "Everything he was doing in rehearsal just kept getting louder and bigger and crazier, with two or three heads per person. I'd watch the amps, and when I could see one was about to explode, I'd just switch heads."
Since those prototype SVT heads were the only ones in existence—production was still a ways away—it was decided in a very smokey room that Mandella would accompany the Stones on the tour as their personal Ampeg technician. While the Stones rocked, and the audience grooved, and the Hell's Angels kicked the living crap out of everybody within a pool cue's length, Rich Mandella was behind the backline making sure everything was sorted. But if you wanna hear those early SVTs blasting for all they're worth, rush right down and pick up Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, the best live album ever made.
In The World Of 300-Watt Amps, Perspective Is Hard To Come By
Since then, the SVT has become the bass amp that all rock bassists dream of, whether they're famous or completely unknown. Ampeg has modified the SVT concept for a wider variety of sounds, but fortunately, they still make the SVT-VR, which are virtually identical to the ones the Stones used to put their Jack Daniels bottles on top of. (The SVT-Classic is also available, and is very similar to the original.)
Former Bass Player editor Scott Malandrone put the SVT in perspective this way: "The SVT has done for the sound of electric bass what the Marshall Super Lead had done for the electric guitar—it would give the instrument an identity." We couldn't say it better ourselves.

When our plastic recorders - the first - were launched into the market in 1955, the name AULOS was chosen by Mr. Masaru Hanamura from the Japanese Ministry of Education. Since this time we have been continually developing techniques to maintain and improve performance and quality.
AULOS recorders are currently used in schools not only in Japan but in more than 50 countries worldwide. Dedicated to the pursuit of achieving ultimate realism in the reproduction of the live performance in the home, Cerwin-Vega’s customer loyalty is second to none and has reached nearly cult-like status. As a result of this acceptance, Cerwin-Vega has grown from a small group of engineers headed by the legendary Gene Czerwinski into one of the foremost loudspeaker companies.
In 1954, Gene Czerwinski, then a brilliant young aerospace engineer, founded Cerwin-Vega. Why start a loudspeaker company? First and foremost a music fan, Gene’s goal was to reproduce the live musical experience. His design philosophy was based on high-efficiency drivers, durability, and a “value for money products.”
This legacy has charged Cerwin-Vega for over four decades. Cerwin-Vega began as Vega Associates and began to grow rapidly from its conception with the introduction of large high efficiency 18” sound systems that could produce 130dB at 30 Hz. This high performance specification established Vega as a company to be reckoned with. It was in 1957 that Vega introduced the world’s first solid state amplifier, rated at 125 RMS: it was a power house by the standards of its time. The amplifier’s circuit was influenced by a 10,000-watt sonar amp Gene designed for Bendix Corp. In the 60’s as dynamic popular music enjoyed a spectacular evolution, Cerwin-Vega quickly became a supplier of loudspeakers and system designs to many major manufacturers including; Fender, Acoustic, Sunn and Vox. The motion picture “Earthquake” premiered in 1974 with a dramatic new innovation in motion picture sound known as “Sensurround”. For the first time, audio was an integrated part of the movie experience through special effects. The concept required large powerful bass cabinets, which would provide very low frequencies in order to shake the movie theater, thus simulating a real earthquake. For this purpose, the “E” bass horns and woofers were developed. These woofers were 18” versions that were folded into a horn configuration. The internal path length of the horn was 6 feet with a cutoff frequency of 33 Hz. Sensitivity of the system was an incredible 106 dB at 1 watt / 1 meter. “Sensurround” technology and in the same year Cerwin-Vega were honored an Academy Award for Special Technical Achievement.
The early seventies also started pro-relationships with bands that included: The Rolling Stones, Boom Town Rats, David Bowie, Peter Frampton, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Bernie Taupin (Elton John’s partner). In the late 70’s, Cerwin-Vega became the first manufacturer to produce its own digital recordings for the evaluation of loudspeaker design parameters. Digital technology was used in the home-line of loudspeakers known as the “D” series. Over the next decade, Cerwin –Vega continued to evolve its engineering excellence and loudspeaker designs resulting in speaker systems that have established a reputation for offering the widest dynamic-range, highest efficiency, highest output-level and best bass-response in the business. IT ALL STARTED BACK IN 1983…
In 1983 founder Hans Nordelius created the Digital Percussion Plate 1 – the first drum pad allowing for dynamic playing using sampled sounds. The DPP1 was an instant success and soon thereafter the brand name ddrum was introduced. The innovative ddrum pads featured real heads and hoops and gained huge popularity – many people still regard them as the best digital drum triggering system around!
In 1995 Clavia released its first synthesizer, the Nord Lead. Its unique take on emulation of analog synthesis, combining a distinctive sound with an intuitive user interface made it an instant classic. Magnus Kjellander joined Clavia in -96 and brought with him a new approach to the company in terms of software design. The Nord Modular, released in 1997 was the first digital modular synthesizer, possibly the most flexible, innovative synthesizer that has ever been on the market.
In 2001 the first Nord Electro was released, introducing stunning emulations of classic vintage electro-mechanical instruments with a level of portability generally not associated with the original instruments…
The Nord Stage surfaced in 2005, combining many of Clavia’s new areas of expertise in one – acoustic and electric piano sounds, organ emulations, effects and even a synthesizer!
The Nord C1 Combo Organ saw the light in 2005, incorporating our 2nd generation tone wheel modeling, rotating speaker simulation, dual manuals and surprisingly lightweight (15kg). Nord Wave took the Nord Lead-concept to a new level in 2007 with its capability to use any audio file as an oscillator source in a virtual analog environment, combined with the compact, user friendly interface of a Nord product.
In 2008 we released the Nord Electro 3 and the exclusively licensed sounds from the Mellotron and Chamberlin. The Electro 3 became one of the most successful products we’ve ever made.
In 2010 the streamlined Nord Piano was introduced, a lightweight stage piano that featured advanced String Resonance and the unique Nord Triple Pedal with pedal noise.
We let the Nord Stage 2 out of the bag at NAMM 2011, sporting a new synth section with sample playback support, more memory, the C2 organ simulation and the Nord Piano Pedal Noise. Nord Stage 2 raised the bar for how a Stage piano should sound and behave. 2012 was an adventurous year for us, with the launch of the Nord C2D, our first organ with physical draw bars as well as the virtual analog drum synthesizer Nord Drum. On top of that we also released the Nord Electro 4 family with the acclaimed Nord C2D tone wheel simulation and introduced the Nord Piano 2 that allowed splitting and layering sounds from the Nord Sample Library.
In 2013 we celebrated our 30th anniversary as a musical instrument company by releasing the Nord Lead 4, Nord Drum 2, Nord Pad and the Nord Piano 2 HP! At NAMM 2014 we announced the Nord Lead A1 – our award-winning analog modeling synthesizer. 2015 began with the release of the Nord Electro 5 – a redefined classic and the first Nord instrument ever with a large OLED display. We also updated our flagship model in the Nord Stage 2 EX including doubled memory for Nord Piano Library and a new HP76 model.
We’ve come a long way from the little basement workshop we started out in back in 1983 – a journey fueled by curiosity, persistence, dedication and love for music !
The History of Crate Amps
Crate has been producing guitar amps for almost 40 years. The first amplifiers were built in wooden cases that were "crated," and even when the look wore off and the amps assumed a more traditional appearance, the name stayed intact. Many famous musicians and bands used Crate amps in the 1980s, bringing attention to the brand.
Prehistory of Crate Amps
The idea of creating Crate amplifiers began as a "flash of inspiration" by Gene Kornblum, who was then leading his father's business, St. Louis Music, Inc. The company was then primary known for importing and distributing stringed instruments, including violins and violas.
By the late 1970s, Kornblum was shopping in a Crate & Barrel store when he noticed that products were held in wooden crates. After considering whether beefing up a wooden crate to hold a guitar amplifier might be a good idea, he began attempting to produce guitar amps that looked like wooden crates, with chest handles similar to the ones found on military footlockers.
St. Louis Music introduced the 10-watt Crate CR1, its first guitar amplifier, in 1978. Before long, the company had sold enough amps to outgrow its manufacturing capabilities, and it had expanded its Crate line to display a full range of solid-state Crate amplifiers. Soon after, the company retired the wooden crate look and adopted the traditional amplifier look, complete with Tolex covering. This transition helped the business to stay consistent.

As Crate amplifiers became a legitimate amplifier for professional musicians, there were numerous artists in the 1980s that were unpaid endorsees of the amps. The list of the endorsing Crate amps users including Gene Simmons of Kiss, Sting from The Police, Sammy Hagar from Van Halen, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Joe Walsh from James Gang and The Eagles.
Current Crate Models
As of 2010, Crate displays three lines of amplifiers for musicians, including the solid-state Flexwave Series, the tube model V-Series and acoustic amplifiers. The Flexwave Series offers the combo of the head/cabinet setup with three wattage choices of 15-watt FW15, 65-watt FW65, and the 120-watt combo FW120. The V-Series tube models range from 5 watts to 100 watts. Some of the tubes on the V-Series are EL84 tubes for lower-wattage amps, as well as V50 and V100 sports EL34 power tubes for higher-wattage amps. The acoustic line of amps range from 10 watts to 120 watts, depending on the model. The CA10 10-watt is the basic amp, while the 30-watt CA30DG has the addition of digital effects (reverb and chorus). The 120-watt CA120DG is the most powerful acoustic amp distributed by Crate.

In 1947 an Elkhart, Indiana minister named Clarence C. Moore founded the International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) which, over the years, has become better known as Crown Audio Inc. Moore started by building open-reel tape recorders out of a chicken coop but today, Crown Audio is an industry leader in amplified sound. Crown makes amps for cinema venues, installed sites, touring rigs, portable PA and commercial audio. With over 67 years of focus on innovation and providing the best user experience, Crown Audio is continually raising the bar in audio amplification.
Clarence C. Moore, a longtime radio enthusiast, had spent the early part of the ’40s in Quito, Ecuador working for HCJB, a non-profit Christian broadcasting and engineering group.
Following his return to the United States, he felt the desire to supply Christian broadcasters like HCJB with quality electronic products. As a result, Moore founded International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) in 1947 and converted a former chicken coop into the budding manufacturer’s first production facility.
The company’s early reputation was built on a family of rugged and compact open-reel tape recorders designed to operate reliably when used by missionaries in remote, often-primitive regions of the world. After modifying and distributing several existing models (Magnecord, Recordio, Pentron and Crestwood) for the first couple of years, Moore obtained a patent in 1949 for a groundbreaking invention: the world’s first tape recorder with a built-in power amplifier (15 watts). This invention led the way for several more in the next 15 years. In 1964, the company invented their first solid-state amplifier called the SA 20-20. From then on, the focus switched from tape recorders to amplifiers and the business was quickly growing.
Unfortunately, amongst all of the growth and development, a fire erupted on Thanksgiving Day in 1971 and destroyed over 60% of the facility and the remainder of the plant was severely damaged. There was $1 million of uninsured inventory destroyed in the process. However, Mr. Moore wasn’t going to let this disaster stop him now. Production resumed within 6 weeks with the latest of their inventions, the D-60 amplifier.
Eventually, Moore’s wife and co-founder, Ruby (deceased 2002), suggested that a name change was in order. Since IREC had by this point produced vacuum tube tape recorders branded ‘Royal’ and ‘Imperial’, in addition to the fact that the emblem on those products was a fancy crown, she felt that the company should simply be called Crown. In 1975, the stockholders voted to change the name of the corporation to Crown International, Inc.
Acquired by Harman International in March of 2000, Crown has continued to move forward, producing numerous innovative designs, such as the DriveCore™ Install (DCi) series that was released in 2013. This series features both analog and Network amplifiers for the installed sound market. Using just one tiny chip to replace over 500 parts makes the DCi series of amplifiers the most reliable and innovative amplifier on the market today. These products and more embody the reliability and innovativeness that have long been the manufacturer’s hallmarks. Crown today continues to delight its customers with products that consistently exceed both specifications and expectations, even on the most demanding tours and installations.
Crown International Senior VP of R&D Gerald Stanley, who originally joined the company in 1964 as a tape recorder line technician and amplifier design engineer, comments on Crown’s success over the years. “In an era of cookbook designs and buggy software, it would seem that the most basic lessons of history have been forgotten,” he says. “Crown’s recipe is simple: design, build and service each product as if you were the customer. This approach not only drives the product to excellence, it drives the people to be the best that they can be.”

Dbx, Inc. is a US producer of professional audio recording equipment. It was founded by David E. Blackmer in 1971.
The company's initial objective was to "get closer to the realism of a live performance". His first products were based on the concept of using the decibel expansion that gave the company its name. Dbx is best known for the dbx noise reduction system. The dbx noise reduction system used compression when recording an audio track and a symmetrical extension during playback. They also manufactured the Model 700, a unique but short-lived studio recording system that is popular in some circles as a mastering format. Another prior product was the DeciBel eXpanded range meter, a small semiconductor meter that measured lower and stronger audio voltages than other larger contemporary voltmeters, integrated in an aluminum extrusion that was roughly The size of the meter itself.

Denon is a Japanese electronics company that is the originator of digital audio technologies, which specializes in hi-fi equipment in the professional and consumer fields.
Its history begins in 1910. For several decades, Denon was a Nippon Columbia brand. In 2001, Denon was bought for its electronic part with 98% of the shares held by Ripplewood Holdings and 2% by Hitachi. In 2002, Ripplewood Holdings founded D & M by acquiring Marantz. D & M Holdings is created. The Denon brand comes from "the abbreviation of Japan Denki Onkyo" in 1939 "denki" meaning "electric" and "on" or "onkyo" meaning "sound" or "acoustic".
Denon created in the early 1990s double CD players DJ. Since then it has become a standard. The first range consisted of DN1000F, DN2000F and DN2500F. Denon also created the only dual MiniDisc player for DJs. Their latest products include the DN-D4500 MK2, a wide range DJ mixer, and more recently a high-end DJ headphone. Denon has become known in the field of the Dj deck, notably thanks to the DNS-1000 which, despite its compact form, is a concentrate of technologies, despite a relatively correct price. Digitech is a trademark of Harman International Industries, a specialist in audio hardware since 1980.
Created in 1984, the Digitech brand has made many innovations in the music industry by producing guitar effects pedals as well as preamps and modulators.

Our story begins when founding partners Arthur E. Falkus and Dennis A. Fane Acoustics Limited, Batley, West Yorkshire, England, was officially registered as a Company on 11th June 1958.
Drivers for household or reinforcement use were advertised in 1959. One unit was equipped with aluminium voice coil windings, a favourite technique of Arthur Falkus to extend high frequency response.
From its inception FANE demonstrated the pioneering spirit that has comprised a core element of its ethos through to the present day.

During the early years of FANE’s existence and rapid growth, the company supplied small round and elliptical speakers to manufacturers during the boom period of radio and television set production in the UK.
From the start, FANE had also produced large 12-inch bass drivers for OEMs in the specialist hi-fi industry in addition to producing its own hi-fi products such as the ‘Quartet’ complete loudspeaker system.
During this period production grew to exceed 50,000 units per week.

In 1965 Fane Acoustics developed the IonoFane, a revolutionary plasma tweeter capable of incredible high frequency response utilising patented technologies. The unit used a high frequency electrical discharge to produce sound waves by ionising the air in a small quartz tube coupled to a flared horn. IonoFane was used by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) as a monitoring loudspeaker and Bower & Wilkins also made units under license to Sony in Japan.
This served to expand FANE’s reputation globally as a pioneering brand with a true passion for innovation in audio.

In 1966 a young man by the name of Arthur Barnes joined Fane Acoustics as the press-shop manager. Arthur would progress through the ranks to become Managing Director and become the driving force behind FANE’s most globally successful period of the 1980s.

It was in 1967 that FANE made the significant breakthrough that would seal its reputation as a market-leading innovator.
During the 1960s the electric guitar created the need for more powerful 12-inch loudspeakers. The real breakthrough for the industry, and from FANE specifically, came with Arthur Falkus’ development, presentation and use of the glass fibre voice coil. Overnight speaker power handling was doubled and the legendary Crescendo MI range was born.
FANE became the first manufacturer to produce a speaker capable of handling 100 W and generate sound pressure levels in excess of 100 dB.
The revolutionary and trail-blazing new speaker technology was highly successful. Almost all of the leading manufacturers of this time would come to load FANE components into their products during this and the following decades. World-renowned brands of the time such as Carlsbro, Hiwatt, Laney, Orange, Sound City and Vox were just a few of those FANE customers.
Iconic artists such as Pink Floyd, The Who, The Rolling Stones and many more used equipment loaded with FANE speaker components, making FANE an integral part of the British music scene revered throughout the world.
It is a tribute to FANE design expertise that other loudspeaker manufacturers, recognising the superiority of the glass fibre coil, replicated the use of this material for their own construction and making it an industry standard. Where FANE led the way, others followed.

During the 1970s FANE went from strength to strength, increasing production capabilities and carrying out further research in loudspeaker technology and advanced construction materials. As FANE continued to further develop speaker technologies for high-power professional audio sound reinforcement, the FANE product range and OEM capability significantly expanded to cover a catalogue range of fifty products.
OEM customers could select variations of cones, coils, dust domes and suspensions to modify product to suit their individual requirements, a service that FANE continues to offer today.
It was during this period of growth and development that iconic loudspeaker ranges such as the Classic Series and Crescendo first appeared.

FANE — “Towards Perfection”
By the mid-1980s FANE was probably the most significant professional audio component loudspeaker manufacturer in Europe.
Another decade of continuous success saw increased FANE presence in high-end theatres such as Carnegie Hall, New York, and the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen. Turbosound, who selected FANE for all their custom designed loudspeaker requirements, were the choice of the world’s leading venues and entertainers.
The new Studio series incorporating, amongst others, Colossus models, reflected the very latest developments in acoustic engineering. FANE “Towards Perfection” was a phrase used to reflect the pedigree and mission statement that the company was striving so successfully to achieve.
New landmarks, such as the first commercially available 24-inch loudspeaker and 4-inch voice coils, enabled FANE to strengthen during this period under the leadership of Arthur Barnes.
In 1986 respected English loudspeaker brand McKenzie was acquired as part of the audio group portfolio, another association that continues to the present day.
In 1989 following years of success, and despite a resolute attempt to orchestrate a management buyout, FANE was purchased by the Wharfedale Group. Arthur left the company he had dedicated himself to and the tenure of the Barnes family association with FANE was temporarily ended.

A period of changes of ownership and lack of direction combined to make the next few years challenging for FANE. Introductions such as NXT flat panel technology did not achieve the desired success and the brand suffered from a lack of focus on the core values upon which it had been so successfully founded and developed between the 1950s and 1980s.

In January 2007 the Barnes family took the opportunity to purchase FANE with the objective of restoring the brand’s fortunes through refocusing upon core values and bringing a renewed expertise to the challenges of an audio market that had showed considerable change over the previous twenty years.
In 2007 FANE was relocated from its then manufacturing plant in Leeds to its current home at our headquarters in Castleford, West Yorkshire, England.

The opening of our offshore manufacturing plant enabled FANE greater competitiveness to meet the challenges of a market in which the number of rival brands had increased exponentially at the same time of vastly increasing production output. By bringing FANE closer to key growth regions, FANE has been able to develop market share in the great emerging world economies.
The launch of Colossus PRIME 18XS saw the arrival of another legendary FANE high power 18-inch drive unit to stand alongside the mighty Colossus 18XB. The PRIME 18XS displayed the hallmarks of FANE ingenuity to deliver an incredible peak-to-peak excursion in excess of 60 mm to ensure fast, accurate bass in the most testing of performance environments and engineered to provide significant advantages over competing European products.
The PRIME 18XS represents just one of the many new product developments over the past decade of FANE audio engineering, each model carefully considered and engineered to provide an audio advantage for the OEM, excelling and not just performing in the target application.
FANE continues to dynamically engage with a continually changing global audio industry, evolving to the demands of the present time while being faithful to our original maxims of being at the forefront of audio design and engineering and innovative in our approach to predicting future market trends and requirements.

HH Electronics is a British amplifier manufacturer, that was founded in 1968 by Mike Harrison, Malcolm Green and Graham Lowes in Harston near Cambridge, England, where its first solid state TPA and MA range of studio quality amplifiers were designed and manufactured. These amplifiers were used by many recording and broadcasting studios, including the BBC.
The company later moved to larger premises at Milton, Cambridgeshire, named the 'Dust Bowl' producing the first of the IC range of music amplifiers. The I/C100 Organ/Musical Instrument Amplifier, which gave a massive 100-watt RMS of undistorted power and featured a unique green electro-luminescent lit front panel which was to become one of HH's unique selling points, was produced with musicians especially the semi-pro and the retail music equipment market in mind. The separate 412BL [4 x 12"speaker] Bass/Lead Cabinet was also produced for the I/C100. The I/C100 was also put in a cabinet [called a Combo] with 2 x 12" Celestion Speakers.
Following a move to Bar Hill, Cambridge in the late 70's, HH extended its range of sound reinforcement equipment to include models such as the MA100 Mixer Amplifier, a 100 watt, 5 channel PA amplifier 'head' with a switchable spring reverb. The IC100L, V-S Bass and the V-S Musician, a two-channel 100-watt guitar amplifier head with a spring reverb, separate gain and master volume controls and a built in switchable solid state distortion circuit. This circuit was designed to emulate valve amplifier distortion [hence V-S for valve sound] but with controllable master volume, the V-S circuit was encased in a block of resin to prevent copying by competitors. All the amplifiers were housed in smart slim carryable heads and 2 x 12 or 1 x 15 combo enclosures. Many new PA speaker cabinets were designed and put into production, such as the 212 & 412 Dual Concentric, 212BL, 215BL, 412BL, 115PA Radial Horns and Bass Bin + Piezo plus the Concert Series of pro PA systems. A large range of studio and live mixing consoles, from an 8:2 to a 24:8:2, was designed and manufactured in the early '80's, plus an HH electric piano and a range of tape echo machines and effects pedals.
Loudspeakers were also designed and manufactured in-house with cast Magnesium Alloy frames under the supervision of HH Acoustics [led by acoustic guru Ed Forme], in order to match the quality of the amplifiers and speaker cabinets.
Continuing designs brought along another of the first 19-inch rack mountable studio quality power amplifiers, the S500D, a favourite with the big pro touring and hire companies. Producing nothing less than 500 watts RMS of power per channel, these amplifiers were ideal for the big touring supergroups in the '80's. Also there was the V-series of amplifiers, including the V100, V200, V500 and V800 MOSFET, .
HH moved premises again around 1985 to Clifton Road, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and began to develop new amplification products, such as the VX Range of 19" Rack Amplifiers, MXA and Invader series speakers.
In the 1990s they were bought out by Laney Amplification.

Company founders (and brothers) Hans and Lothar Stamer began producing their own guitar amps in 1984. While the production space may have been small, their aspirations were not. Five generations of the Ramírez family have produced Ramirez Guitars. The company was founded in 1882, when José Ramírez opened a workshop at 2 Concepción Jerónima, Madrid.
After the death of José Ramírez in 1923, his son José Ramírez II, married with two children, José III and Alfredo, returned from South America where he worked as a guitarist. He was also a guitar maker, and in 1925 Jose II ran the company.
Largely hampered by material shortages during the Spanish Civil War, José II and his son José III, who was himself a guitarist, began experimenting with non-traditional woods and design techniques. The other son of Jose II, Alfredo, directed the affair.
Alfredo died in 1954, and José II in 1957, forcing José III to take over the management of the store and to give up guitar making for a time. However, he continued to experiment, putting drawings on paper to be built by companions, and supervising each phase of construction of the instruments. The story of Randall starts with the history of its founder, Don Randall.
Don Randall partnered with Leo Fender in 1946 to develop, market and distribute Fender instruments and amplifiers. In 1953 he became president of Fender and under his marketing genius, organizational expertise and senior partnership with Leo Fender, Fender Sales grew steadily throughout the 1950s and thrived well into the 1960s on an international scale. Don Randall coined the names Esquire, Telecaster, Broadcaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, Twin Reverb, Bassman and others.
He also spoke for Fender in the 1964 negotiations that resulted in the company’s sale to CBS then subsequently became vice president and general manager of the Fender Musical Instrument and Fender Sales divisions of CBS until his departure from the company in 1969. Don Randall is forever rooted in American business as a pioneer in our industry and as one of the architects that contributed to development of Rock’n’Roll.
In 1970, he founded Randall Amplifiers with a focus on the technology surrounding the use of solid-state circuits instead of vacuum tubes. Many of these early FET transistor circuits are still the benchmark for solid-state amps to this day.
In 1990 Don Randall sold the brand to US Music Corp in Wisconsin who operated the brand until being acquired by Washburn International in 1995. Washburn international then renamed its operations as “US Music Corp” after the acquisition of Randall Amplifiers.
2002 brought the launch of the innovative MTS Modular Amplifier Series designed by former US Music engineer Bruce Egnater (who later found success with his own Egnater Brand). After the successful launch of the MTS platform Randall greatly expanded its artist reach with relationships with Kirk Hammett, Scott Ian, George Lynch and many others.
In 2010 US Music Corp was acquired by JAM Industries and Joe Delaney was hired to manage the Randall Brand.
Understanding the need for a solid engineering base from which to grow the brand, in 2011, Joe began to enlist the services of world-renowned heavy metal amp Engineer Mike Fortin. The first order of business was to bring Metallica lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett a new amp for his approval and after that first prototype debuted at the BIG4 show at Yankee Stadium everyone know that Randall was on a track to renewed success.
RCF was founded in 1949 by a group of Italian electro-acoustic engineers with a simple vision: to create, through technical innovation, quality control and attention to detail, audio products that would offer the highest-possible performance in their market sector.
The company started by making microphones, amplifiers and related products for public-address applications. During the 1950s and ‘60s RCF established itself as an OEM manufacturer of transducers, and by the mid-‘60s the company had become the first in Europe to have a high-level Transducer Research Centre.
This leadership in transducer design and manufacture continues to the present day, with RCF continuing to supply woofers, midrange units and compression drivers to some of the best-known and prestigious loudspeaker brands in the world.
In parallel with its transducer technology development, the company continued to expand its range of public-address electronics, amplifiers and speakers. The volume of production does not affect the quality of the instruments
Strunal's annual production is around 50,000 guitars of all shapes and sizes; more than 6,000 violins; nearly 1,000 violas; up to 2,000 cellos and the same number of double basses; 3,500 bows; more than 500 mandolins and banjos; cases, covers and other accessories. All instruments are manufactured in several versions, ranging from the cheaper instrument of study to concert models of higher quality. The small family-run instrument workshop that would later become the Takamine company is founded in the town of Sakashita, at the foot of Mount Takamine in central Japan.
As guitar playing gains popularity in Japan, the small company is re-named as Takamine Gakki Ltd., after the mountain itself.
The company grows to 60 employees and becomes a leading builder of classical guitars and mandolins. Luthier Mass Hirade arrives at Takamine and introduces many effective design and manufacturing improvements. The company later adds Hirade’s name to many of its classical guitar models in honor of his contributions.
Hirade becomes Takamine’s president and launches efforts to bring the instruments to a much wider audience. Takamine guitars soon become available worldwide.

The SL-10 was a fully automatic turntable with Technics platinum technology the size of a pocket of 33 turns (31.5 cm). This platinum design very appreciated was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The SB-AFP1000 was an exceptional flat-panel loudspeaker that used dual cabinets that operated according to a unique acoustic theory. This chamber which allowed a sound reproduction of great fidelity was used by the Vienna State Opera.

The story of Warwick and Framus began on 1st January 1946 when the "Fränkische Musikinstrumentenerzeugung Fred Wilfer KG" was founded in Erlangen/Bavaria.
FRAMUS was one of the most important manufacturers of electric guitars in Europe between 1946 and the end of the 1970s. The company was created by Fred Wilfer, the father of Hans-Peter Wilfer, who would create Warwick some years later...
Fred Wilfer was born in Schönbach in 1917. In 1945, when he heard about the expulsion plans of the allied forces, which were going to affect his homeland in south Germany as well, he decided to build up a new basis for his countryman and the music industry in the west.
The Bavarian government welcomed his plans and asked him to create all conditions needed for the settlement to Bavaria. The US military government in Bavaria gave him the permission in 1946 to found his company. Thus the "Franconian Music Production Fred Wilfer Investment Trust" was founded on January 1st, 1946, in Erlangen, which became the central location of instrument makers, who were displaced from Schönbach.
A factory was set up in a former barracks camp in Moehrendorf in autumn 1946. At the end of 1948 the factory was moved to the near town Baiersdorf. However, Framus soon out-grew that space. Since the end of 1949 Bubenreuth became the center settlement of Schoenbach violin makers.
Fred Wilfer built up one of the most modern factories of this time. In the summer of 1954 Framus moved into the new factory. About 170 employees started to work, having 2200 square meters at their disposal to produce more than 2000 instruments per month.
But the sky above the Schoenbach violin makers was soon not that full of violins anymore. The guitar and especially its electronic sister became the new bestsellers. The numbers increased enormously due to the Beatles Boom at the end of the 1950s. Because of this development a second factory had to be built in Pretzfeld, 25 km north of Bubenreuth in the Franconian Switzerland, in 1966. It was at that time that Framus became the biggest guitar manufacturer in Europe employing about 300 workers in the late 1960s.
One of the most interesting chapters of the firm history is the relationship between Framus to its stars. The oldest and longest relation between Framus and an outstanding guitar artist is the one with Billy Lorento (alias Bill Lawrence) which was established in 1953. A very fruitful cooperation emerged soon afterwards with Attila Zoller, perhaps the most famous Jazz guitar player in those days. For the idol of German Rock'n'Roll music, Peter Kraus, a new 4-string-guitar, especially for pop songs, was constructed by Framus in 1957 - the "Peter-Kraus-pop-song-guitar". Besides Framus collaborated with John Lennon and Bill Wyman, bassist of the Rolling Stones who signed a 3-year endorsement contract.
After the company's bankruptcy at the end of the 1970s, Framus was vanished into thin air. But Hans-Peter Wilfer, who spent his childhood in the company of his father, soon founded his own company. When he was 24 years old he founded Warwick on 13th September 1982 in Pretzfeld/Bavaria.
The company has grown continuously and so they moved the production to Markneukirchen in Saxony - where they also revived FRAMUS.
As a result, Warwick can count on a level of skill and craftsmanship from its workforce that few other firms can match. The construction of the new plant provided an opportunity to install state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, giving Warwick a technological edge to go along with its well-deserved reputation for fine hand craftsmanship. Today Warwick produces a staggering array of instruments with a quality level and consistency that is matched by few instrument makers worldwide.
Starting with three model ranges in the first years, Warwick offers now several product lines with more than forty different bass guitars and a huge offering of bass amplifiers, Speaker Cabs and accessories. And they added the production of the high-quality Framus guitars as well.
This success is based on the more than 50 years lasting tradition of instrument making in the Wilfer family, and also on one secret of the company Framus & Warwick: Satisfy the growing needs of the modern musicians with the diligence, endurance, and perfection of all employees.

As the Yamaha Organ Manufacturing, it was founded in 1887 by Torakusu Yamaha in Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture. Torakusu Yamaha, a clockmaker and mechanic, had been a great success by repairing the harmonium of one of the city's schools. The company manufactures 250 instruments that year. In 1897 it was renamed Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. (Nippon Gakki Seïzo Kabushiki Kwaïsha) with the aim of embarking on the manufacture of other instruments.
In 1900, Yamaha returned from the United States after a year spent learning the profession of piano maker. The company then sells its first straight pianos, and two years later grand pianos. Strengthened by this success, it continues to diversify by making other instruments: harmonicas, xylophones, etc. Torakusu Yamaha, died in Tokyo on August 8, 1916, at the age of 65 years.
In 1930, the Nippon Gakki created its own acoustic laboratory. During the Second World War, the company was forced to manufacture aircraft propellers and from 1944 to 1947 it would no longer produce any instrument. After the war, economic growth is important, the company is working on various products enabling it to diversify (sewing machine, automobile, etc.).
In 1955, Nippon Gakki Yamaha was renamed in honor of its founder and launches its first motorcycle, the YA-1.
In October 1987 Yamaha bought out the British drum and percussion manufacturer Premier Percussion Limited, and resold it in February 1995.
Yamaha bought Korg in 1989, which in 1993 became a completely independent company by buying Yamaha shares.
Yamaha bought Steinberg in 2004 and also bought Motobécane-Motoconfort.
In 2001, when the Yamaha Motor Corporation was founded, motorcycle and engine activity separated. This split is done by exchange of shares with Toyota.
The logo of the brand, which represents the three forks crossed recalls the beginnings of the company that today is one of the two largest piano manufacturers in the world, about 130 000 units per year
"Zil" means "cymbal" in Turkish and "-dji" combined with "-ian" form a perfect family name for an Armenian cymbal manufacturer family during the Ottoman Empire. It was at the beginning of the 17th century that the alchemist Avedis discovered a special alloy of metals that produced a sound adapted to the army, religious houses and festivals, while allowing to make very good music. The Ottoman sultan gave Avedis the name "Zildjian" as well as 80 gold coins. Thus, Zildjian, the cymbal manufacturing company has its origins in Constantinople in the year 1623.
A few hundred years passed before the family business moved to Massachusetts crossing the Atlantic Ocean, where the name Zildjian has since enjoyed great success. The company now has over 65% of the cymbal market. We immediately recognize the company's distinct logo on cymbals and other percussion equipment, instruments visible from local auditoriums to the biggest rock concerts.
After fifteen generations, the Zildjian family is still in charge of the company, which is now headed by the first female CEO since 1999. It is one of the oldest businesses in the world as well as one of the most old family businesses in the world, and certainly the same in America. Zildjian society always keeps secret the formula of the alloy which for the first time did not leave indifferent neither the royalty, nor the people about four hundred years ago.

Zoom produces a wide array of recording devices, including a line of portable “handy” recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has established a solid reputation as a manufacturer of innovative yet affordable products which are based on original microchip designs.
Founded in 1983 and based in Tokyo, Japan, the Zoom Corporation spent its first years helping other manufacturers develop sound generator LSI, rhythm machines and MIDI synchronizer systems.
In 1990, the first Zoom product was unveiled: the 9002, an ultra-compact multi-effects processor designed to be attached to a guitar strap. It was a huge success.
This was followed by the rack-mountable 9010, which featured the world's first 4-In/4-Out individual signal processing. In 1992, the high-end 9200 came to market and soon became a fixture in studios everywhere.
The popular Zoom Player series of guitar effects was launched in 1994, along with the Zoom Studio series, which continue to be found in the racks of many musicians today.
The following year, the Zoom 500 series of footpedals was introduced, including the 506 bass pedal and the extraordinarily popular 505 guitar pedal, the best-selling multi-effects pedal ever.
But it was in 2006 that Zoom totally redefined the state of the art in audio for video with the release of the revolutionary H4 Handy Recorder. Small enough to be held in the palm of your hand, the battery-powered H4 offered an onboard X/Y stereo microphone, the ability to record up to four tracks of 96/24 audio directly to SD card in either WAV or MP3 format, built-in effects including a guitar tuner and metronome, and a USB port that allowed the H4 to be connected to a computer. A smaller Handy Recorder, the H2, was released in 2007, followed by the H4n in 2009. All became standards of the industry.
In 2013, the third-generation H6 Handy Recorder was announced—a six-track recorder which offers a slew of advanced features, including a system of interchangeable microphone capsules which can be swapped out as easily as the lens of a camera.
Under the steady hand of CEO Masahiro Iijima, Zoom is dedicated to continually developing new products that allow artists to more freely express their ideas yet are accessible to anyone, from amateur to professional. Gator Cases was founded in 2000 by father-daughter team Jerry Freed and Crystal Morris in Tampa, Florida. Initially, they launched with a small offering of molded plastic guitar cases at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Tennessee. From there, they expanded the product line to include case and bag solutions for pro audio, IT, audio visual, general utility, band instrument, and percussion. The line now consists of over 1000 different solutions that are made from vacuum-formed plastics, rotational-molded plastics, wood, sewn, and EVA materials.
Leveraging the company’s expertise in case design and manufacturing, Gator has also grown a complete OEM division that works with leading companies around the world to engineer and manufacture custom cases for original equipment manufacturers.
In 2008, Gator acquired the manufacturing facility and product line of Protechtor Cases, located in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. This new endeavor brought on shore manufacturing in rotational molding along with expansion into the percussion market. Gator continues to invest in additional US manufacturing and expansion of this plant.
In 2013, Gator announced its new Frameworks line of stands and support systems at the Winter NAMM show. The launch features over 50 innovative and unique solutions for microphone, speaker, guitar, keyboard, A/V, and more. The line was extremely well received and compliments the existing case line, making Gator the one stop for all your accessories needs. In 2014, Gator moved into a new state of the art manufacturing and distribution facility in Columbia City, Indiana. With over 180,000 square feet of dedicated space, Gator is poised to continue expanding manufacturing and offer best in class distribution.
In 2015, Gator acquired Viking Cases, a USA based case manufacturer specializing in custom built ATA rated flight cases. All Viking Case manufacturing was moved from it's location in St. Petersburg, FL into our facility in Columbia City, IN.
The British company Marshall Amplification is one of the world's largest manufacturers of amplifiers for electric guitars. It also produces bass amps, effects pedals, headphones, a refrigerator and lastly a smartphone.
Marshall was born in 1962 when Jim Marshall, then a drum teacher and music store owner, noticed discussions with many musicians, including Pete Townshend and John Entwistle of The Who, 'They regularly emit the need for a different, more powerful sound. It was as a result of this finding that Jim Marshall decided to embark on the world of amplification. The first tube amp, built by Jim Marshall, is the JTM 45, which is largely inspired by the Fender Bassman 59 '.
Jim Marshall is also the inventor of the stack, that is to say a stack of loudspeaker speakers surmounted by an amp head.
The Marshall Sound in the 1960s was popularized by three major artists of the time: Who, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton when playing with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. This powerful sound made many admirers and other guitarists such as Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page played on these amplifiers. In the 1980s, many guitarists used Marshall: Metallica using JCM800 and JMP100 MkII heads for the album - Ride The Lightning - and then for the studio. "Marshall" is a brand recognized by a lot of musicians. Some models, like the JTM 45, or the JCM 800 have become as essential as a Fender or Gibson guitar.
In recent years, Marshall has launched several derivative products: a fridge, artisan beer brewed in the Vendée, headphones and listening station for walkmans.
